Masiela Lusha was born in Tirana, the Capital city of Albania.  Her family moved to Budapest, Hungary, Vienna, Austria, and finally settled in America when she was seven years old; English is her fourth language.

In 1997, at the age of 12, Masiela became the youngest author in the world to publish and illustrate a book of poetry in two languages.  She then received the acknowledgment of becoming of one of the Top Ten Talented Poets for North America for her first book, "Inner Thoughts."  A distinguished author, Masiela continued to write,  publishing "Drinking the Moon”, “Amore Celeste: The Complete Collection",  and her first novel, "The Besa”; her writings also include screenplays, children’s books, essay’s and literary translations including the translation of several of Mother Theresa’s poems.

In her acting career Masiela has risen from the lead as Carmen Lopez on the recently syndicated ABC series "George Lopez" to star in such films as Pathe's "Time of the Comet," where she portrayed Saint Agnes and performed her dialogue entirely in Albanian. Masiela soon after starred in Sony Picture's action-thriller, "Blood: The Last Vampire."  While working for Warner Brothers and ABC, Masiela starred in a diverse genre of features, including "My Father's Euology" and a regular voice-over for "Clifford's Puppy Days."  Masiela also starred in "Muertas"; in this production, Masiela's dialogue was entirely in Spanish; though she did not speak a word of the language, she was thrilled with the challenge.  In addition to her awards for being a talented, young, author; Masiela has also been awarded in her acting career as she has received two consecutive Young Artist Awards for Best Actress in Comedy and Drama for her portrayal as Carmen Lopez.

On a personal note, while working full-time, Masiela graduated from high school two years early, at the age of 15, and transferred to Glendale College. Upon receiving her AA, Masiela was accepted at 18 as a Junior at UCLA, majoring in Creative Writing.   Masiela ambitions continued to flourish as she founded Illuminary Pictures at the age of 23, and has since wrapped two films under the company name.

Two important aspects of Masiela's life are Sentabale, and her own 501(c)3 Children of the World Foundation.  For Children of the World, she plans to start close to home in Southern California where she donated ten acres of land for a community center focused on rehabilitating families in need.  Other chapters will develop across the United States and eventually expand in other parts of the world.

Masiela's current book will help to support Sentebale.  Sentebale was founded to help the vulnerable children of Lesotho stricken with poverty and HIV/Aids.

BELMONT STUDENTS HOST TALENT SHOW TO RAISE FUNDS FOR LOS ANGELES HISPANIC YOUTH SYMPOSIUM

Masiela Lusha of the George Lopez Show MC’s Event to Send Students to College Empowerment Program

Los Angeles (March 25, 2010) - On April 16, 2010 at 6 PM  the students of Belmont High School will host a benefit talent show MC-ed by actress Masiela Lusha, famous for her role as Carmen Lopez on The George Lopez Show. The event will raise funds to send alumni of the 2009 Hispanic Youth Symposium back to the 2010 symposium to serve as volunteers and near-peer mentors for students attending this year. The talent show will take place in the school’s auditorium and will feature seven different acts, including performances by faculty and students. Prizes including $100 cash for first place and Macy’s gift certificates will be awarded to the second and third place winners.  Admission is only $5 per person.

Proceeds from the talent show will be used to send students to the Hispanic Youth Symposium, scheduled to take place on the campus of the University of California, Los Angeles from August 10-13, 2010. The four-day, three-night program is designed to motivate Latino students to pursue a college degree, enter a professional career and give back to their communities. Students gain the motivation and tools that they need for success by building relationships with adult mentors, attending workshops on college and career preparation, and participating in confidence-building activities.

“At the Hispanic Youth Symposium, we are always telling our students to ’send the elevator back down’ - to help others have the same opportunities that they have had,” said Jacqueline Griego, director of the Los Angeles Hispanic Youth Symposium. “We are thrilled that these Belmont students have taken this message to heart and are now working to send others to the same program.”

The Hispanic Youth Symposium is the first step in the Hispanic College Fund’s pipeline of professional development programs for Hispanic students.

Following the conclusion of the symposium, students will be enrolled in the year-round programming of the Hispanic Youth Institute, which is designed to increase their college knowledge and help them maintain progress towards academic and professional success.

Sponsors of the 2010 Los Angeles Hispanic Youth Institute include: Southwest Airlines, Beyond the Bell, Grifols Biologicals Inc, Employees Community Fund of Boeing California, University of Phoenix Foundation, The Walt Disney Community and Telemundo 52-Los Angeles.

National program partners include Darden Restaurants, Microsoft, the National Nuclear Security Administration, and the Social Security Administration.

"George Lopez" Reunion: Recap & Highlights

After George's opening standup, which was G-rated due to all the kids in the crowd, "Creepy Little Sitcom Mom" (Belita Moreno) paid a visit to deliver bad news about George's old haircuts, among other things.

Belita then joined George on the stage to reminisce about their work together on the show. She also admitted to stealing a few mementos from the set.

Constance Marie joined them and talked about the early days of the sitcom, when George was a novice actor... and how George's real-life wife cast her as George's sitcom wife! Then, Valente Rodriguez joined the party -- the guy who can make George laugh like no one else can.

George welcomed the kids from the show -- Luis Armand Garcia, Masiela Lusha and Aimee Garcia. They thanked George for the experience of working on "George Lopez" and talked about how their lives have changed since then. George got teary-eyed as he shared his thoughts on what the show means to him.

Then came the "George Lopez" finale they never got to make, which included a cameo by Leah Remini.

War closed the show with their classic song "Low Rider" -- the theme for "George Lopez" and "Lopez Tonight."

A tradition at "George Lopez" was impromptu dance parties, and that tradition was celebrated at "Lopez Tonight" with a party that continued during the breaks. Watch this un-aired footage of cast members partying with the audience!

Masiela to Star in Two New Films, "Of Silence" and "Signed in Blood"

Masiela will star in two new films in 2010 that will be co-produced by her production company, ILLUMINARY PICTURES.

Jeremiah Sayys wrote, directed, co-produced, and starred in “Of Silence,” which centers on a scuba-diving instructor whose life is falling apart. An inner ear condition prevents him from teaching, so his business dries up, leading to mounting bills and debts, all while he’s trying to cope with the suicide of his ex-wife. The building pressure causes him to isolate himself, and he soon experiences strange events which may be linked to a world beyond our own.

Masiela plays Sayys’s wife, and is joined by Muse Watson as Sayys’s father, and Paul Cuneo, who plays a debt collector. Production recently wrapped, and a 2010 release date is expected.

  • Interview in Latin Style Magazine

    September 19, 2008

    Interview in Latin Style Magazine

In an interview with Gabriel Castro for Latin Style magazine, Masiela talked about Carmen Lopez, books, fashion, and staying grounded.  Although she is currently a junior at UCLA majoring in English, she remembers fondly her days portraying Carmen on “George Lopez.”  “Carmen’s problems and the family’s problems [were] beyond Latino, they’re universal…she represent[ed] a role model for other teenagers in the U.S. having typical growing up experiences.”

Now that she’s in college, she’s focusing more on her writing.  Some of her favorite authors are Jane Austen, Sylvia Plath, and Gabriel Garcia Marquez. “’One Hundred Years of Solitude’ is such a powerful book – these writers shape my poetic voice.”

Masiela also took some time to discuss fashion and the dress she borrowed from Warner Bros for her high school prom.  “I went straight to the 50s section and picked it out since I wanted to go vintage…It’s a masterpiece the way the designer tamed and manipulated the fabric to create this simple yet interesting dress.” Some of her fashion tips are to mix fabrics and break color rules, “…but it’s never in style to over do anything.”

With so much going on, how does she stay grounded?  By driving up the coast with her mother. “When things get hectic, we just take a drive along Pacific Coast Highway, and connect with nature.”
